The Bologna Performing Arts Center to hold open auditions for Cleveland Community Choirs

The Arts Education Department of the Bologna Performing Arts Center will hold open auditions for The Cleveland Community Choir and the Elementary Choir for students in our area schools.

The elementary choir would like to add additional members to its roster this year. Positions are available to students in 3rd- 6th grades. This choral group was formed in January, 2007 and held their first concert this past May.

The Community Choir program is ready to expand to the Junior High level as well. The choral group is inviting students in 7th- 9th grades to audition to become a member of the choir.

The choirs were organized to provide an after-school, arts-based program to provide training in vocal technique and music-reading skills while learning a well-balanced selection of choral literature appropriate to each age group.
Both choirs are under the direction of Tennie Lester, Arts Education Coordinator.
Audition packets for both choirs are available at the Bologna Performing Arts Center.

For further information and to set up an audition to become a member of the choir, please contact the Arts Education Department in the BPAC at (662) 846-4844.

The Cleveland Elementary Community Choir was in concert for the first time Saturday, May 10, 2008 on the McPherson Stage in the Recital Hall of the Bologna Performing Arts Center. This Choir is in its first semester of existence and is comprised of local students, third-sixth grade, from Hayes Cooper, Parks, Presbyterian Day School, and Bayou Academy. The concert will be given in conjunction with piano students of Adriel Hill.

The goal of the choir is to provide the development of choral singing skills, as well as the opportunity to learn a variety of musical styles from standard children’s choral literature. Selections the choir will sing in this concert include: “When I Turn My Heart to Heaven”; “The Path to the Moon”; “Siya Hamba”; and “We’re All in This Together” from the Disney hit High School Musical.

This educational opportunity is administered by the Arts Education Department of the Bologna Performing Arts Center and is under the direction of Tennie Lester. Accompanist for the group is Susie Thomas of Shaw.

Next year, in addition to maintaining the elementary choir, an additional choral opportunity will be offered on the junior high level for area students. Please contact the BPAC Arts Education Department for further information at 662-846-4844.
